PORTUGAL – SPAIN – FRANCE PILGRIMAGE
FATIMA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – AVILA – ZARAGOZA – LOURDES
This pilgrimage will take us from Lisbon, St. Anthony, to Fatima, Santiago de Compostela, Lourdes, Alba de Tormes, Avila with St. Teresa, and St. John of the Cross...and many more amazing destinations!
We will enrich our knowledge of the history of Europe, our Catholic Church history, our Faith, and our companionship with Jesus and Mary through our daily prayers and inspirational visits to shrines and sanctuaries.
For sure that we will not miss the opportunity to taste excellent local food, dinner out in a restaurant in Santiago de Compostela and Avila, wines and rich cultures of the countries we will visit here!
DAY 1: ARRIVE LISBON
Today you will depart for Europe! Overnight, long transcontinental flight to Portugal, Lisbon!
Upon arrival at Lisbon International Airport, we will be welcomed by our guide & bus driver! Our pilgrimage starts with a visit to St Anthony’s Basilica where St. Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of Portugal, was born. Before we check in to a hotel, we see the Belem Tower and the Gothic Monastery of St. Jeronimo. Overnight stay in Lisbon (D)
DAY 2: LISBON CITY TOUR
This morning we will leave Lisbon, head towards Fatima! En route to Fatima, we will visit the Holy Miracle Church of St Stephen at Santarem, the site of the oldest recorded Eucharistic miracle. Later in the afternoon we will arrive in Fatima and check in to the hotel. After the dinner, we will participate in the evening prayer of the Rosary and Candlelight Procession to Our Lady of Fatima! DAY 3: FATIMA
After breakfast, we will visit the Tombs of the Visionaries of Fatima; the Aljustrel where the children lived; and the Valinhos, where Our Lady appeared after the children’s return from prison. We celebrate Holy Mass at the Little Chapel of Apparitions and join for the Rosary and participate in the candlelight procession in the evening. Overnight stay in Fatima (B.D).
DAY 4: FATIMA – COIMBRA – PONTEVEDRA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Today continue our journey to Coimbra to see the Convent where Sr. Lucia lived. Continue to Porto and where we stop for lunch, en route we will visit Pontevedra, a great Spanish Shrine, where we see the magnificent Cathedral, before arriving in Santiago for an overnight stay. Overnight stay in Santiago (B.D).
DAY 5: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
This morning we will see the Cathedral built in honor of St. James, the apostle of Jesus Christ. Then we will visit the tomb of the Apostle, and his disciples St. Theodore and St. Athanasius. We will join with pilgrims from all over the world in celebrating the Pilgrim’s Mass. Continue to the Church of San Francisco, that built in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, after his pilgrimage to this land. Overnight stay in Santiago (B.D).
DAY 6: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – ALBA DE TORMES – AVILA
Today we drive to Alba de Tormes, home of the Carmelite Monastery founded by St. Teresa. Upon arrival in Alba de Tormes, we will visit this Monastery where St. Teresa died and was buried. We will also visit the small museum dedicated to St. Teresa of Avila, which holds her incorrupt heart and left arm. Overnight stay in Avila (B.D).
DAY 7: AVILA
After an early breakfast, we continue to Avila to visit the Convent of the Incarnation where St. Theresa lived, wrote books, and experienced mystical revelations. Visit the museum that is built upon the home of St. Teresa that contains her relics and that of St. John of the Cross. We finally visit Basilica of St. Vincent, which stands on the site of the saint’s martyrdom. Holy Mass before lunch break & free time in Avila! Overnight stay in Avila (B.D).
DAY 8: AVILA – MADRID – ZARAGOZA
Today we proceed to Madrid, en route stop for a short break at the world-famous Monastery of El Escorial (no entrance) and the Valley of the Fallen, where a gigantic cross and a cavernous basilica carved into a rocky hillside. Continue with a Madrid city tour to visit Puerta del Sol, Retiro Park, Plaza de Espana, and the Royal Palace (no entrance). Later in the afternoon, we continue our journey to the Zaragoza for an overnight stay. Overnight stay in Zaragoza (B.D).
DAY 9: ZARAGOZA – LOURDES
This morning we proceed to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, the place where Mary appeared to the Apostle James before her Assumption into heaven. Continue to visit the Cathedral of La Seo, built initially as a mosque that mergers Gothic and Baroque architecture with a uniquely Spanish form called Mudejar. We will continue to visit Santa Engracia Basilica, which has the bones of martyrs killed by the Romans in 303 A.D. In the afternoon we will journey to Lourdes through the beautiful landscape of the Pyrenees in southern France. Upon our arrival at Lourdes, we will check into our hotel. This evening we are welcome to join the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament and the Blessing of the Sick. Overnight stay in Lourdes (B.D).
DAY 10: LOURDES CITY & SANCTUARY TOUR
This morning we begin with a walking tour of Lourdes to visit the Upper & Lower Basilicas; the Grotto of Massabielle; Boly Mill, the birthplace of St. Bernadette; and Cachot, the home of St. Bernadette at the time of the apparitions. The rest of the day is free for Adoration, Confessions, private devotion, reciting the Rosary, and bathing in the miraculous spring. This evening we will again participate in the Candlelight Procession. Overnight stay in Lourdes (B.D).
DAY 11: LOURDES free time
Today the group will enjoy free time in Lourdes, private devotions, Baths, lunch, shopping.....dinner and last night in Lourdes!
DAY 12: LOURDES - flight back home
